Original Message:   Sticking with it, too
MM9 was indeed hard to get into knowing that there were so many problems in advance. I never became angry with a game until I hit the Lich promotion glitch in MM(8?) and had to replay half the game. For that reason, I have to admit I was daunted by the problems with MM9. I've started it twice and never finished either time, unfortunately. I know from the posts here that I just need to get over the hump to the mid-game and it'll work out (though without flying, I've lost a lot of the reason to eagerly seek the end of the MM9 game).

I have to say, though, that every person I know works for the game company that created Max Payne and I've had to defend that love to them until I was blue in the face for the past 8 years (never argue with a Finn - it wastes your time and annoys the Finn). But I'm still arguing for it even knowing the reviews and disappointment of the latest incarnation. And fortunately, Telp's and Bones have been there to help when I ran into snags (as with that Lich bug). So with a little outside help, the game can be fun again (I always end up thanking Bones in my posts - sorry about the effusiveness).

I wish the series could have gone out with a bang instead of a whimper. But all the same, just hearing the sound effect for turn based mode really helps me remember just how great these games have been. I will always remember the joy of slaughtering multitudes of hapless lizardmen in the earlier versions.
