it fits into the story. while the team is getting the gift, the clan army is doing battle with the horde.

events changed things, if it was really intended to replace guberland's jarl, the horde could attack while the team is doing that.

sending the team to get that stuff dragon was meant to seperate the team from the rest of the clan army.
