Indeed MM1 assumes that if you have 2 drives, he can use drive A to play and drive B to save. But, if you try to run the game from B, it may get confused. Also, your game disk may be write protected.

Try making two copies of the game disk. One on a 3 1/2 floppy and one on a 5 1/4 floppy. Put them in A & B and run from A. It might work.
