..and installing the 3DO 1.2 patch fixed that. Don't forget to install the TELP 1.3a patch right after that. I run a desktop, XP and a not particularly whizzy ATI 128 Rage Pro gfx card, and I think the 1.2 patch makes the game less temperamental about graphics cards.
