A common reason for this is low memory due to programs runnib ib the background -- especially virus scanners. Try shutting down as much as possible.

TELP's 1.3 is compatible with 1.2 savegames, but 1.2 is not necessarily compatible with 1.0 savegames. What area is your savegame in?
