I decided to take the commando approach and just did a new, clean install of winxp along with the updates and directx 9.0b. Game(s) are installing just fine as I type this, so whatever the heck was wrong seems to have gone into hiding. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions - and best of luck to anyone else who shared this problem. |
