In homm yes there is a story about lord ironfist but there is no info if this portal was a portal to new world or was it only a barrier.In manual there is info that this "portal" was closed and lord ironfist was unable to return to his land. It is said as it was some kind of barrier stoping ironfist from leaving land (this area) but not the teleporter to other world.
It may be a new world or part of the old world.
On thing is for sure that in mm6 we can see many times Ancient's name VARN and this is only one name we can say for sure.
