I'm totally out of touch with present-day programming, but years ago, when I knew a bit more about it, I was told that the games writers took advantage of every little wrinkle that they could squeeze out of the system to get more speed. Certainly in the days of DOS games, they made extensive use of undocumented DOS calls in the game engines. If they're continuing to do things like that you could have problems. I know that some years ago, a pal of mine tried to run an early M&M using a PC emulator on a Mac, and that didn't work at all.
