Works produced by a private individual are protected for many years after that person dies, so why would works produced by a company not be protected after it goes bankrupt?

If that were the case, all software copyrights would be declared in the name of an individual, and that isn't usually the case with commercial software.

However, sorting out *who* the rights revert to is a complex task handled by specialised lawyers.
