He was at a society party, and reportedly some woman was having a rather arch semi-flirtatious conversation with him. Shaw said then asked if she would sleep with him for Ł5000, or some such amount. Without actually saying Yes, she intimated that she would. Shaw then asked if she would sleep with him for Ł5. She exclaimed "What do you think I am? A whore?" Shaw replied "Madam, we've already established what you are. All we're doing now is negotiating the price."
