Looking for the name of a game

Hello, it's a little bit offtopic but I am looking for a game from the 90s - 1995 or 1996 it was very similar to warcraft 1 it had several factions you could play with - humans, mages, giants. It's main manu was a circle with rubby buttons for new game, old game, campaing. I remember there was a mission to build a mage's cathedral or destroy it. Can you help me remember the name of the game?

I've just asked Elf; she's played many more games than I have, and might know it.

It depends if she's within range, however. She travels a lot.

Old game

Could it have been Masters of Magic? (Somehow I doubt it, but I'm grasping at straws here.) MoM used the original Civ engine, with wizards building up their towers. The hot keys were the same as Civ: B--Build, C--Center the camera, etc.

Another possibility might be Jon van Canegham's original King's Bounty (New World Computing, 1990. But I don't remember there being buttons in a circle. Side note: the first Heroes of Might & Magic was based on KB.)

There was another game, an American spin-off of Germany's (translating from German,) The Dark Eye. I believe it had the circle and the colored buttons. Darn! I forget what it was called. (I turned 78 last month.) Some years later, another U.S. game was actually called The Dark Eye, but apparently wasn't related. I played the first game a lot, but never finished it. In those days, there was no internet, and if it wasn't in a fanzine's Q & E column or a Shay Addams hint book, you were outta luck for getting past really difficult puzzles in games. (In those days there were very, very few Prima or Bradygames hint books.) I wish I could remember its name, because I really think this may have been the game you seek. I remember you had to choose your party from choices indicated by red, yellow, green, and blue buttons

I thought MoM used the Moo engine as both used some of the same stuff and were done by Steve Barcia.

I don't think it could be MoM or King's Bounty.

I really like the idea of MoM (lots of factions, lots of units, two big lots of spells etc.), I play it often, but it doesnt fit the description. Mainly there is no campaign and the buttons aren't certainly distributed in circle anywhere in the game.

KB? I didn't play this very much, but I don't think buttons being in circle either. And there was only one mode of play as well ... And no building or destroying mage's cathedral.

The third one completely pases me by, I haven't ever heard of it.

Since I am lucky if I can remember current games, I would need a lot more to go on. I would suggest looking at MobyGames as they have screen shots of most games.

One game that came to mind was Rage Of Mage's.

Rage of Mages has buttons in circle, but it's more of an RPG if I remember ....

An RPG that plays like a real-time strategy at times, sure, but still an RPG.

Shortly put, too bad. It seems that I can only ruin the hypothess of the others. I can't remember playing any game like that -- and I have played lots of old and older games.

About the game

Thank you for the help! The game I'm looking for seems very similar to Blood and Magic in interface https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vhnpi12z_0 but it's not it. I remember there were six races I think giants, dwarves, humans and mages or necromancers. And the mages were evil. They built a dark cathedral or cathedral of shadows or something it was a campaign (quest) of the game. Also later the humans had a quest to destroy the dark cathedral. I got the game from a cd with 1997 games so I guess the game must have been released in 1997. It was a real time strategy I think. Also when clicking on casting the spells they had strange names like "ferula" or something. And the giants were making funny sounds.

This is a shot in the dark, but maybe Blood and Magic, by TSR? You made your units/monsters by taking "basal golems" (your workers) and metamorphosing them into other creatures.
