Need ideas how to deal with Robert the Wise

Hello everyone, it has been a long time since I last played MM7.

I have finished the game countless times, but never has may party lacked a sorcerer and a cleric. Until now.

My party is: Villain, Bounty Hunter, Warlock and a Ninja. All of them level 44.

I seems to kill just one guy would a trivial thing. But it is no longer so. Without protection from magic at the grand-master level, Robert eradicates one member of my party with every second shot. After trying ranged, melee and magic to get the cube from him, I have failed every time.

Disappointed with my party, I have left this task for later and cleared out Celeste and castle Lambert. How can one man be stronger than a whole castle of angels and wizards?

I have no ideas how to defeat him. Unless perhaps increase the skill of my Villain's mace (11 now). I hope Robert can be paralyzed.

    Any other ideas?

Thank you in advance, live long and Prosper.

MM7 was not one of my favourite games, but from what I remember . . .

. . . Robert the Wise is VERY difficult to kill without GM Resistance to Magic but I seem to remember that when I tackled him, I was at least level 70, and maybe even nearer 90. I suspect your party simply needs more experience, so that you can pump more skill points into your core skills. As for how to tackle him, he is immune to Light, Dark, and Mind magic (and 60% resistant to everything else), so he's unlikely to paralyze unless the paralysis from weapons is different from that of the spell.

One thing does occur to me – have you tried donating at all the temples to see what spells they cast on you? One of them might give a high-level Day of Resistance. I don't know if it will be enough, but it's worth a shot.

I just now tried to show my sister how my party was unable to beat him, when suddenly paralyzing him worked. With only Mace GM11.

So we can now say that this paralyze is different from light magic

Many thanks for that.

I like magic-heavy parties — my favourite Light Path party for MM7 was PACS — and I often used Paralyze as the quickspell. It's a normal level Light spell, so the whole party has access to it once it's fully promoted. It's very useful when clearing the dragon caves in Eeofol.
