Harmondale Castle in Maestro Mod

Noted a post here regarding the castle. It claimed one could touch the blue torch and be transmitted to the second floor. I have tried this trick and no dice. Attempted to check this out via a character editor giving myself 'Grand level 12' in both Wizard Eye and Perception. Movement of the cursor along this wall shows absolutely nothing. Other torches in this room and others will indicate "TORCH" when touched. It is completely ignoring the blue torch. Only gave these attributes to one party member. Is there another skill or attribute I need to adjust to accomplish this. Believe you can't increase some items beyond reasonable; as, in trying to survive the Dragons on Emerald Isle I increased my fire resistance to '300' and the game merely refused to acknowledge or move. THANX!!!!

Harmondale castle

As a post script: Other than the goblins in the castle there appear to be very few opponents outside the town. Vaguely recall a ton of goblins southeast and south of the town gate in the 'Grayface' patch and perhaps even in the original game. Were hardly any opponents on my way to the cave southeast of town nor to the small section of town to the south. Is there some crazy issue with this modification or with my install of the patch(s) and game modification??? THANX!!!!!

I think you may well be right. Although I hate to start all over again and maybe still have an issue. Believe Maestro's instructions were to install game, apply patch(s) and then apply his modification. Startup of game screen does indicate Maestro Mod so somethings up. Looks like basically it is a matter of replacing three or four files in the 'Data' folder. Will try again and see where it goes! THANX!!

A total re-install of MM7, followed by application of patch and the Maestro modification did not give proper results. Game would not load without my applying the Grayface patch (this may be the one which allows the game to run under WinXP which I am using). So, the game runs now with the same issue. Virtually no opposition. Dragonflies and dragon on Emerald Isle, trees in Tularian forest, a few Shades in Barrow Downs, and some Trogs in the cave to the East of Harmondale. But really nothing compared to what there should be. May scrap this Maestro mod and just play the game again without and changes. I do see some things different, such as the load screen and character pictures, but no indication of the new classes he claims he has added. I may have installed this game on my Windows 98SE computer so will see if the files he mentioned are in the 'DATA' folder (events.lod, etc.) on that system are the same as those on my WinXP. No intention of trying this on my Win 7 OS (have a dual-boot computer). Sorry if I ramble on. THANX!!

That could be part of the problem

The vanilla games run well on Win98, but versions of Windows later than Win2000, especially WinXP, had all sorts of issues with them, which were not completely solved until Mok wrote his patches. If Grayface's patch incorporates Mok-type alterations, then the game might not run too well under Win98.

Does this sound like a sort of CATCH-22 situation?? Perhaps I should give up on my Win98SE system which Micro hasn't supported in years. Understand they are kicking out Windows XP some time next year. Going to force people to purchase Windows 8 somewhere down the road.

I can't advise you on that - it depends on the games you've got

I play very few modern games, so I kept a set of Win98 source discs, and I shall set up a Win98 partition on my next computer. The only thing I have to so is make sure I don't access the net on that partition, because it will be wide open apart from the firewall built into my router. I'm looking forward to being able to play Grimrock, though.
