I can't find the bandit caves; I must be blind

Hey there folks! I'm returning to MM7 after playing it in 2000, and I am in Erathia seeking the bandit caves, and geez, I can't seem to find them. I'm eager to get that signet ring, etc.

I have walked all over the walkable areas; are they in or part of the sewers? I haven't completed inside the sewers yet. I remember there is a puzzle in there and haven't quite cleaned the place out yet to solve it.

If someone can point me in the correct direction of the bandit caves, (which I assume are near the bandits themselves) I'd be much obliged.

Thanks! I'm enjoying my fighter, ranger, mage, and thief this time around. Think I'll go evil since I played good last time.

The Bandit Caves are in Erathia, in the hills NE of Fort Riverstride and pretty well due south of where the road south from Deyja turns west.

Of course it is easy when you know where to look.

The first time I played MM7, not only had I problems finding the cave, I had problems finding the chest and when I had found the ring I had problems getting out of the **** place.

Now about archers and meditation . . .

But seriously, although I've not played MM7 much - it's a long way from my favourite M&M game - I found Ethric's Staff a superb weapon for my lich the one time I played the dark path. The plus to the Dark magic skills was extremely useful, and it's a decent melée weapon. But I still maintain that by the time you've fully developed a front-line magic user, the bonus you get from the Meditation skill is negligible compared to the character's inherent spell points. It amounts basically to one high-level spell, and if you're reduced to a situation where that actually matters, your party should have bugged out about three rounds ago.

On the other hand, I would wholly agree that Meditation is an essential skill in a might-heavy party which has archer and/or paladin as the only spellcaster(s).

Where do you get those special spells?

    Some statistics from level 42:
Lich 10M meditation goes from 550 SP to 820 SP with that staff.
Warlock 13GM meditation goes from 694 SP to 1069 SP. That's 18 and 25 extra SP for each skill level. According to the manual they should have 267 and 220 SP at that level, not counting the extra SP they get for intelligence and personality, I'm not sure how to calculate those.

Do you have any numbers for archmages without meditation that we can compare? (I don't have to ask about druids .)

I don't care if Ethrics staff is any good in melee, I would use it even if it made the lich clumsier and it would be better for her to fight empty handed.

And it takes some time for a party to get fully developed.

I didn't realise the differences were that big!

But as I say, I only ever played one dark path party, and I didn't finish that game. Once the party became fully developed, I found the game too easy and I got bored with it. I stopped after I'd completed the quests limited to the Dark Path.

I thought about running another with a druid, because I was curious about the Warlock's familiar, but I never actually did it.
