The false head will still let you complete the quest. What happens iirc is that the golem will attack you in harmdale castle. Not a big deal as you just kill him. I was so disappointed to find the golem does not even put up a good fight with the rats. If I sleep in the castle and get attacked, I expected the golem to be able to kill them.
