Original Message:   I've tried a souped-up party, not in this game but in MM8.
After playing it through a couple of times, I deliberately set out to play a game in a manner which would allow me to pick up the level 50 NPCs (except for Duroth the Old) as quickly as possible. I found that game suffered from two big drawbacks. First, I missed out on the character development, the pleasure of seeing my characters increase in power and abilities. Second, the party was too powerful; there was nothing left that could give it a decent fight. The end result was that I got bored, and never finished the game.

I suspect that this would also happen if I used an editor to buff my party.

For me, one part of the joy of an RPG is to win a battle against the odds by using superior tactics, identifying the best spells, the best weapons, the best characters, and the best way to use them all. Another part is to go everywhere and do everything possible - whether the game designer intended it or not. (For example, in MM3, you're not supposed to be able to explore the mountains in the Isle of Fire. But you can get into some of them if you know how. Not that there's anything of note in there ...) So there you go! We all get our kicks in different ways.
