MM6-8 played music from the play CD as audio tracks. You should be seeing the access light on your optical drive flashing even if you don't hear music. Is this the case?

The Miles Sound System routines in MM6-8 are looking for the audio data through the wired analog audio input to your sound card. Mostly nowadays we have that data sent digitally over the ribbon connector. If you're getting the flashing access light on your optical drive then try adding the analog wire.
