...is to copy setup.exe to your hard drive, set compatibility mode on that version and run it from there. This is most likely a problem with your newer generation optical drive. You might have related problems later, but for now let's just work on getting the game installed. BTW, you might consider putting an old CD drive in your machine before proceeding. That would avoid all this and possible future problems. If you do get the game installed on your current optical drive but can't play it then changing over to a different drive would require some extra registry cleanup.
