Playing solo is taking the chance that you can win without help. If Tolberti/Robert the Wise has a 50/50 chance of eradicating a character then that's the way the game was designed and you should have a GM Prot. Magic Caster in the Group or your solo character should be able to cast it.

That said, with enough saves and reloads, you might just get lucky enough to stun or paralyze him if you trained your Druid in Staff. I'm not sure, but I think a Druid can Master Staff at least and with enough points in the skill might be able to get a stun in there once in a while.

If not, then I guess you're just gonna be SOL.
