It also allows you to visit places like Avlee and Evenmorn Islands without having to walk there every time. Personally, I'd be bored to tears if I had to keep repeatedly slogging on foot into, out of, and across all those places which don't have a Town Portal site. And waiting for the right coach to turn up is even worse. Added to the fact that you're a long way into the game before you can even get access to it, I don't think it's a game-breaker at all. Remember, there's no compulsion to use Lloyd's Beacon that way. If you consider that the instant escape aspects of the spell are game-breaking, then you're completely free not to use it like that in your own personal games. Why not just run a parties with no sorcerer? Then you can't use Lloyd's Beacon.
