I know this sounds silly, but some people (especially left-handers, in my experience) only know the difference between right and left when they actively think about it. This sounds like just a quibble, but it isn't. I was in a session years ago when we didn't have access to our models and floor-plan pieces. The fact that one player instinctively kept turning left in his mind when everybody else was turning right caused indescribable confusion. Also, it's impossible to run mazes without an actual map that everyone can see.
