Original Message:   Maybeth, I am debating whether I want to take that leap... (Misc. Astrology Stuff Included)
... I've done people's charts before, but always people I knew. There is much information online; try searching for "free astrology birth chart". Trouble is, you'll need someone to interpret it, although there are some good generic interpretations online. Ask around, you probably know someone into astrology. One billion of us are, but we keep it to ourselves because some of the other five-point-five billion can get pretty aggressive with their hostilities towards it. If you really cannot find anyone to interpret your chart, Christy said she's up for it. (Just kidding, Christy!) I guess I will take a quick look for ya', but I don't want a barrage of natal-chart requests.

Incidentally, every religion has its own take on astrology. Christian astrology is different than Hindu astrology is different than Aboriginal astrology. There are also atheist astrologers, whose take on astrology goes something like this: since the moon's gravitational pull affects the tides, women's menses and all things watery (i.e. people), then certainly there could be an equivalent in the subtle - but present - gravitation tug of, say, Venus or Jupiter or Neptune. Atheist astrologers might say that while the ancient people perceived the correct energy (e.g. Aries is spontaneous and impulsive) they accounted for it incorrectly (by calling it "Aries" and associating it with certain stars).

Of course, all astrology is a form of augury, and all augury is subjective. Augury is neither a science nor a system, neither a religion nor an art. Augury is a thing unto itself. The keys to effective augury are personal associations, personal associations, and personal associations.

Astrology is one method of augury that is somewhat systematic, much more so than reading tea leaves, but not as defined as the Tarot. Astrology isn't a formal system, and one gets out of it what one puts into it, as with pretty much anything else. If you are open to it, you will find meaning in it, and if you are closed to it, it will seem as rubbish. As to whether there is any *actual* significance in it, who am I to say? All I know is that my chart fits me to a T, and had I been born two hours sooner or two hours later, my chart wouldn't fit me at all.

Finally, astrology is not intended to account for every facet of one's existence. It is merely meant as a barometer for the general elements of one's life: Venus represents love and beauty, Saturn represents challenges and discipline; planets found in Taurus are stubborn and those found in Gemini are flexible. However, there are no planets or signs which relate to sofas, tubas, or carrot-like wombat things.
