I love Sorc/Sorc/Cleric/Sorc, but you can't do it all the time. So we go with all sorts of parties. I do not use knights as I figure I can get by early without it and later they are not much use. I do remember one of my first runs ro maybe even the first run, having a paladin type save the day in the Warlords run. All my others finally got killed as I ran back, back back to the first room. Killing the Doom Knight, barely. That was a great memory, but since I know the game so well, I am not likely to have that happen. You just know how to navigate too well.
