I have made significant progress in the development of this mod, although the progress has been primarily 'enabling in-nature'. I have decided, instead of 'splitting' my efforts between 'fancy graphic' upgrades and altered game sequence, to focus totally on the game sequence and leave the graphics to another project (perhaps a follow-on MM8 mod). As you may be aware, the MM series of games is 'event-driven'. Whenever your party crosses an 'event horizon' (my terminology), it triggers an event sequence that may include a dialog, giving or taking items, Quests, skills, attributes, et al. The event 'language' is extremely limited **and** full of anomolies, and to accomplish something 'out of the ordinary' requires modification to the main .exe file. In fact, several 'assigned' events direct the game engine away from the 'normal' event sequences (both local and global) into the main .exe for execution. Although I've located these .exe-driven events, the MM7 Rev4 mod will **not** modify the game .exe file. I am currently in the process of parsing all 'accessable' events (in-excess of 700 global and local event sequences) and analyzing the event language, arguments, and parameters. This **massive** task is about 85% completed. I should complete this task early-on in the weekend. Then, I'll continue to implement my 'storyboard' for the modified game sequence. Currently, the game is about 40% completed. I still plan on delivering the Beta to my two game 'testers' for validation/debug in mid-November. Assuming all goes reasonable well, I'll release this mod in mid-December, assuming that I can find a site to 'host' the mod. So that's the status of this project, to-date. BDJ ... |
