as I have never tried to play a saved game from the original using a mod. I have played both Flame's Mod (playing it again right now as a matter of fact) and also Deathstalkers V3.0 Mod. Deathstalker's Mod is so full of bugs that I'd stay away from it if I were you. Flame's Mod is virtually bug free. I only found one bug and it turned out to be a beneficial one . . there is a boss monstsr "Quetzeacoatl" guarding the entrance to the Cosmic Circle. He is stuck in a rock and can shoot at you, but you cannot shoot at him. If you do a combat run past him, he commmits suicide and you get 900,000XP however.
