Once you are done with the "war" quest--rescuing the spy--Queen Catherine is not important in the game, so if the castle is hostile it makes no difference. Castle Lambent, on the other hand, is vital (for a Light party) and you do not want to alienate it. If you do, you cannot talk with Gavin Magus (or anyone else in the throne room) for a long time. Alienating any castle does not affect your relations with the area outside it (Celeste, Harmondale, etc.) They are separate areas.
