Original Message:   Luck/Perception NPCs useful?
I've never totally understood the role luck has in the any of the games, nor how perception helps you "notice better treasure". All I've ever seen from higher perception are more herbs appearing when a map resets (and of course, trap dodging).

I've just started a very difficult game, a solo peasant without dying. I've made it to Harmondale and am having trouble clearing the map (run away, run away!). I had a Cartographer and a Chaplain on Emerald Isle, but they had to remain behind when I travelled to my new lands. I have found another Chaplain to serve His Lordship, but cannot find another Cartographer to chart and map my new demesnes. Keen on gaining every advantage I can, I am looking to fill my second slot.

As I wander the town, I keep seeing chimney sweeps, psychics, fools, and the like all looking for work. Will boosting my luck or perception help in combat in any way? Is a psychic any use? Without a cartographer, I don't know who else to hire, and have no need of cooks or guides.
