I was able to install MM8, but when I ran the play disk it would crash to desktop no matter what fix I used. I ran a scan on the play disk and it came up "bad" - although it worked fine in an older computer (both computers running XP). The eventual conclusion I came to was that the play disk was somehow incompatible with the newer optical drivers. Unfortunately the disk was stolen with my laptop, so I can't check to see if Mok's patch fixed it. I'm running MM7 now on an older computer with XP (the one MM8 would run on), with Mok's patch, and it's fine. So your sister may just have an old enough computer and the operating system makes no difference.
