My normal parties in MM7 use an Archer for disarm. An archer is a long long way from being the best disarmer in the world, but I do not remember having any trouble with this chest. The one down under the stairs at the back of the cavern blew up on me a few times, but once I found the secret compartment on the ship, opening the chest was not a problem. One the other hand, maybe my memory's faulty.  Certainly I have difficulty in believing that the game interacts to that extent with the operating system!
