if you're using XP, go into your control panel and pick "Power Options".

~under Power Schemes tab: are you set to turn off hard disks? if so, change it to "never" is system standby set to turn off after a certain length of time? if so, change it to "never"

~under Hibernate tab: is "enable hibernation" checked? if so, uncheck it.

~if you make changes in any tab, click "apply" afterwards. when you do more than one tab, after clicking "apply", click "OK", then exit Power Options.
