In real-time mode against limited opposition, they are deadly. As Belhawk says, hold down the trigger (i.e. the "A" key) and the gun fires quickly and repeatedly, and the monster drops shortly afterwards. The difficulty arises when you are firing into a host of monsters. The game's autotargetting mode is to fire at the closest monster, so when he gets hurt and retreats, your fire switches to another monster who is closer to you. This is repeated, so you end up being unable to kill any of them until you've weakened them all. And by that time, your party is hurting if those monsters have a heavy ranged attack. In turn-based mode, blasters are next to useless, because a single attack doesn't do much damage, as you found out, and the quick-fire advantage is nullified. |
