The statistics are way against you. If we assume that the US judicial system takes the same care over a case of petty theft as it does for murder 1 (which it should), then the proportion of miscarriages of justice should be the same for both types of crime. So are you telling me that the US justice system is so perfect that no innocents are convicted, or that it takes more care over murder 1 than misdemeanours? I would ask: once a case is closed, who looks at it again? As Marlowe has it "...but that was in another country, and besides, the wench is dead."
