Original Message:   Funny you should mention it...
I just did a total redistribution of the available class skills for a mod that a lovely lady (not here, sorry) gave me the idea for. (Its completion is so far off (and unlikely) that I prefer not to drop any further teasers.)

I hadn't even started looking to change the initially offered skills, because the mod is based around starting with a particular saved game with the correct characters. But ideally, I should fix that, because once installed, anyone could hit "New Game" and get a wrong set of basic skills (which wouldn't break the game balance, but I dislike it for aesthetic reasons).

Anyway, if you like, I could whip up a small executable that would insert your preferred skill sets into MM7.EXE. And uninstall them. (I haven't bothered searching for the locations of any data in MM7.EXE aside from what I've already changed, so you'll have to tell me where you want any other data.) However, both my coding and my compilers are old-fashioned, so I can't vouch for the executable working on all systems. Thus, if you have any coding skill beyond your obvious hex-editing skill, you very likely will be better off doing it yourself.

Also, while changing things, I am of course thinking of bug fixes. It's really a very different project, though, and one that I'm not about to tackle, since I don't know a thing about reading the .EVT, .BLV, and other random binary data files.

Oh yeah, mail to Versenwald at blimix dot com could be useful if you decide to take me up on my dubious offer. :-)

If not, I'd still like to know where the data for the initially offered skills can be found. (Maybe it's obvious, but I haven't looked for it yet.)

Speaking of mods, a question to those who have been here longer than I: Is the mod that Xenofex XVII just posted the first MM7 fan mod released (outside of saved game edits such as Klar's)? (I am by no means dismissing Klaravoiya's contributions!)

And speaking of bug fixes, in quests.txt, item 141 says, "Only give Markham's vase once (Markham's manor, Thief promo)." This sounds like the source of the "missing vase" bug (due to which the vase might not (or never does?) appear on the shelf during a subsequent attempt). Any idea where the parameters for that "quest" are stored, and how to change them? (I'd certainly love to learn more about the data files.)
