Hello, it's been a while. I hope you've all been staying safe in these troubled times. You've all been on my mind for a bit.

The old games are calling to me. I was messing around a bit in MM8, but honestly I want to start a new MM7. I spent many happy hours in Harmondale.

I truly hope all are well and staying safe.

Hello Rustavius, it's good to hear from you

Everybody's still fit and well to the best of my knowledge. We've heard recently from Bones and Elf, and not all that long ago from Chlala, and if any of us have had Covid-19, it's been a very mild case indeed. We (my wife and I) have to be careful, though, because we've both been around a lot longer than you have! Consequently, we don't get out much at the moment.

MM7! Funny you should say that. I just (like 2 days ago) started MM6 again and, checking the savegames, I see that I've not touched it for over 3 years. However, the goblin population in New Sorpigal ha just experinced a very severe decline, and the Church of Baa in Ironfist is shortly to undergo a drastic drop in the number of their followers. Not that it's going to bother the clergy all that much, because they aren't going to be around long enough for it to worry them unduly *evil grin*

Enjoy yourself, I hope life is treating you well, and I hope also that you have a good Winter

Rustavius, it's good to hear from you, and know that like the rest of us lucky ones, you're vertical. not horizontal.

I recently participated in an Early Access game of Torchlight 3. (I'd enjoyed Torches 1 and 2, and naively thought #3 would be similar. It was about as similar as MM10 was to the MM franchise, and for the same reason: original developer has a good thing going, falls on hard times, sells out [in all senses of the word] to a developer eager to make a quick buck, new game is an insult to the name.) Consequently, I'm ready to re- play an old fave again. So Rustavius and Peter2, count me in!

I'm also happy to hear that Chlala and Bones are well. I did have Covid very early on, with some "long haul" after effects. I am now completely recovered, and I had a lot of time to think about the things in life which made me happy during my recovery.

And yes, I will be returning to Harmondale sooner as opposed to later. And I look forward to sharing my new adventures with all of you. Again.

Our whole family got infected ~ 6 weeks ago, but fortunately we had only mild symptoms and we quickly recovered.

I'm very happy that you got through CoViD-19 but sad to hear that you were a long-hauler. Stay well, take care of others, and be patient.

MM7 is a very well designed game IMO and a great one to re-visit. The dev team really responded well to all the fan feedback from MM6. I think I'll open up the M7 Tavern again to see if the spammers have given up.

It's great to hear from you again, Bones. Even though I hadn't been active on these boards, I always came around each year to see the holiday lights. Except for last year. I was still in Covid recovery at the time. I'm looking forward to seeing them again though.

It sounds as though Covid hit you pretty hard

I'm very glad indeed you have recovered; it must have been a bad attack to keep you away from your computer over the whole of December!

I hope you don't suffer any of the long-term effects that have been reported. A friend of mine had Covid and lost a lot of his sense of taste – he said it was the first time in his life he was able to enjoy a really hot curry without feeling as though somebody had just lit a fire in his mouth. Anyway, he had his annual influenza vaccination and, mush to his surprise, a couple of days later his sense of taste returned.

He doesn't know for certain if the 'flu vaccination had anything to do with his getting his taste back or if it's just coincidence, but he wonders if it's a possibility. This may have happened to others, but I've not heard of any other instances.

I've read that it can happen because...

    Ramillies writes:

when you get a vaccination against pretty much anything, the immune system gets into a sort of alert state for a couple of days. Normally it would take a few days to kick the specific immune system to do anything, but when it has been alerted like this, it can hit the virus pretty much instantaneously and so it has much easier time beating it. I've at least read reports that this could have happened to some people. However I'm not really sure that anybody understands this at all.

(I only wonder how you can enjoy any food without having a sense of taste! Or maybe your friend was just enjoying the fact that he could eat it without feeling as if he was going to breathe fire? )

By the way (and very fortunately!) the long-term effects seem to go away with time, it just takes several (6-12?) months, apparently.

This is correct

    Rustavius writes:

Covid is called a "novel virus" though because the immune system has nothing to work with once you're infected. Which means it sometimes also doesn't know when to stand down when the infection is gone. And that's what happened in my case.

And yes, it took nearly 6 months for everything to return to normal.

I hope you and yours are well and not experiencing any extended issues.

Actually, the VIRUS wasn't too awful...

    Rustavius writes:

I was lucky in that I didn't get the lung infection. The sore throat was the worst of it for me, but all of my symptoms were pretty consistent with a generic virus, which lingered for about 10 days. In that regard the actual Covid infection can be defined as a mild-to-moderate one.

The complication was that after the virus was flushed from my body, my immune system was still a bit haywire and kept attacking my joints and muscles.

What was worse, the virus or the aftereffects? Kind of a coin toss in my case.

At any rate, it's all behind me and I have some antibodies for my trouble.
