I am not sure if this is an "allowed" question

but I really would like to know if there is any simple way to play MM6 in a computer that has no CD or DVD drive. My newer note book computer do not have DVD drive and I don't want to carry an external DVD drive all the time.

There certainly is a way, though I don't remember exactly.

I think it could work okay after copying Anims/Anims2.vid from the play CD to the (game folder)/Anims/Anims2.vid. If you install Grayface's patch, you can even specify a folder with MP3 music that will be played instead of the CD tracks.

And if it won't work, you may always stick the CD into a computer that has a drive and make an ISO image. (This will scrap the music tracks. If you want them as well, you should make a CUE/BIN image.) Certainly you will find a way of doing that.

There were a number of "cracked" versions around shortly after the game was published, but I'm not sure where – or if – you'd find them now

Google says they're still available.

I didn't mean any cracking.

I play MM6 only without CD (in fact, I didn't use the CDs for so long that I'm not really sure I'd find them if it was needed) and there was never any cracking involved. The only catch is that I don't really remember how it was done.

The only thing that really prevented the game from being played without CD is, IIRC, the file Anims/Anims2.vid, which was on the CD and not on the HDD. So the game would fail if it was nowhere to be found.

My experience is that all versions (v1.0-1.2) and patches (Mok's & ??) before Grayface's patches required CD to start game. Once started, CD could be removed to stop music if Anims folder/files on hard drive. Grayface's patches allowed no CD.

Then that was it. I use Grayface's patch.

Try to copy the whole directory from another machine to a thumb drive. Then copy that to you laptop.

If you have the no cd fix from Greyface, it should run.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I will try your suggestions.

For the current suggestion, do you mean I should just create a new game and then copy the whole directory into a thumb drive and then to a laptop? (I understand that there are something in the disc that cannot be copied into the HD).

I have never use any fix or patch.

Yes. Make sure Anims1.vid & Anims2.vid are both in Anims folder then...

copy entire MM6 folder structure onto thumb drive and copy onto laptop. Being copied onto drive it won't show up in registry. You might want to create another MM6 folder structure w/ different MM6 folder name (I have 27 game folder structures on my desktop (MM6-1.0, MM6-1.1, MM6-1.2, MM6-1.3 Moks, etc) and 2 more in a ramdisk structure for when I do a lot of reloading.) You can try to run but will most likely be asked for play disk. Then download Grayface's MM6 Patch v2.0 and run within one of the MM6 folders. Read the readme file included w/ patch or before you download.
