R.I.P my vintage computer

I think my old computer has finally come to the end of its life. The Win2000 partition gave up the ghost a few months ago, and now the Win98 partition has followed it. So, at long last, there go the working copies of all my old Might & Magic games, Eye of the Beholder 13, Wizardry 68, Hexen, and a few more.

I can still play MM68 on my old laptop, but it won't handle MM9, and it doesn't have enough base memory for the DOS shell to run MM15. So that's the end of an era.

All might not be lost, though. There are some good free disc recovery tools available. If you can't boot to the partitions you should still be able to retrieve the files.

But maybe it's time to let them go. It keeps getting harder for folks to play them. I anticipate making many toasts to their memory.

(BTW, you can play MM1-5 online in a browser emulation at several sites. One is given below.)
