Has anyone else noticed that there is a door on top of the Kriegspire tower? If so, have you been able to find a way to open it? I find it very strange that the programmers would take the time to put a door on this one tower and not use it for some purpose.

There is many a tale to be told about that door - and many another piece of scenery in the MM game. s

The short answer is that the door doesn't open. The basic explanation is that the tower used to be one of the Dragon Towers (you probably remember a couple of quests to (1) find the keys and (2)switch the towers off). However, northern Kriegspire is the home of the Dragon Riders, and in times past they inactivated that tower, because they didn't like being shot at.

Seizing on a number of things, such as that door, the very tall pinnacle mountains in New Sorpigal and Ironfist, etc., some people made up some highly ingenious tales about all sorts of hidden quests. These involved things like entering that door, mysterious portals out of normal reach atop the pinnacles, empty houses which suddenly become occupied (there are a couple on Free Haven where you can't open the door), an unreachable section of the sewers in Dragoons' Cavern, and so on. A lot of people spent a lot of time trying to chase these down, following directions like "Drop 5000 gold at ... " (which you can't do in this game).

A number of us spent quite some time poring over the files with hex editors to check these out, and I'm very sorry to have to tell you that they're all pure fiction. It would have been nice if they hadn't been, but there you are. I'm afraid the pinnacles, the tower door, and all the rest are nothing but scenery.

And another tale would be that flute you find in the Dragoons' Caverns in Ironfist. Though, if you take that back to the guy who sends you to look for the harp, he gives you a condescending talk.

But LOADS of time has been wasted on trying to find a special goblin, do a specific dance, next to that stone where the sword is imbedded just outside New Sorpigal town, etc. Though I've concluded there's really no use for that flute in MM6.

Also -- in what's left of the town in Sweet Water, there is a door or two on intact houses. You can't enter (As no one lives there anymore,) but if you cast Telekinesis and click on the door, the spell fires, but nothing else happens!
