Might and Magic 3: Clairvoyance spell?

Hello, just started playing MM3 and having a blast with it (played World of Xeen and greatly enjoyed it in the past).

My only problem is that I can't find any way for the nodding yes/no skulls on the screen to work. In MM4/MM5, they were activated by the clairvoyance spell, but I can't find any mention of that kind of spell or skill in MM3. It seems like there are the skulls on the screen, but were they not implemented in MM3 by the time of its release?

    Thanks!

Regretfully, there's no such thing in MM3.

The Clairvoyance spell was only introduced in MM4. All you can do in this game is save your game and try it out.

I think MM3 is a better game than MM4/MM5. There are fewer boring areas, IMO - nothing like the Red Dwarf Mines, for example!

Thanks Peter!

I loved MM4/5, but you are right that there are fewer boring areas (those Jousters sure are tough)! I just noticed that there are no party-boosting combo spells like "Day of Protection." This is going to be a fun time >

The jousters are a long way from the toughest opponents you'll meet.

I don't know if you've explored the boggy lands on the island where Swamptown is located. If you haven't, I would recommend that you are VERY careful about what you dig up in the NE of the island. I'm not saying don't do it, but you might find it advisable to save your game first.

I would also be rather cautious about where you go in the outside areas on the Isle of Fire - and when investigating some of the whirlpools in the seas around it!

I know this game well, so yell if you need further help. I always play RPGs at least twice, once to get to know the game, and again to play the game to maximum advantage. For example, in the final room of the Tomb of Terror, you will find 4 thrones. These can be extremely useful if you know how, but if your party is good enough to get through Dark Warrior Keep, then it's probably already too advanced for the thrones to be of much help.

MM3

IMHO MM3 is the best of all. 1991 release and well ahead of its time. An updated MM3 with todays technology would be fantastic. The terminators that reside in the pyramid situated on the Isle of fire are quite challenging to say the least.

Terminators

The only spell that I've found to work reliably well against them is Implosion. My usual party (KAPRCS) contains only two characters with access to that spell (AS), so I try to retain some items that can cast the spell with which to equip some of the others.

I agree with your opinion that MM3 is the best of the Might & Magic games. A non-linear game containing a blend of continuous action (no boring bits, unless you want to explore all the seas in addition to the bits around the Isle of Fire), some cracking good puzzles and riddles, (not to mention the humour!) is very hard to beat.

It is SUCH a pity that the single-player RPG went out of fashion!

Not sure that's a good idea.

The problem here is that the game engine is antique; it's pre-Windows, and turn-based only. I'd have to describe it these days as good in spite of the engine. I think BDJ would be metaphorically shouting against the thunder if he tried to do any mods for MM3.

I would think that modding MM4-5 would be more rewarding, there are big areas in both those where nothing much is going on. But I'm still not sure it's a good idea because the game engine is so old.

BDJ is enjoying retirement and I don't see him doing any more mods. He was interested in MM8 at one time, but I think the time has past on that as well.

Well, he's sure enough entitled to sit back and enjoy his retirement!
