Sound cards could routinely handle such a file when the game was released years ago, so I'm guessing that your system is somewhat limited. That probably means that your sound hardware is on your motherboard. If you're playing on a laptop then there's probably nothing you can do, although there *might* be a setting in the BIOS that lets you expand the sound buffer. If you're not on a laptop then you should be able to add a sound card. You'd just need a basic one. They're inexpensive and come in all the different bus and height configurations. Your motherboard might even have a mini PCIe slot specifically provided for users who need to add a sound card.
