I play MM6 only without CD (in fact, I didn't use the CDs for so long that I'm not really sure I'd find them if it was needed) and there was never any cracking involved. The only catch is that I don't really remember how it was done. The only thing that really prevented the game from being played without CD is, IIRC, the file Anims/Anims2.vid, which was on the CD and not on the HDD. So the game would fail if it was nowhere to be found.
