My computers with American Megatrends BIOSs make it difficult to boot to a USB stick. It lumps those into drives and only lets you choose one of those as a boot option. My Lenovo motherboard is much more flexible. As long as I specify that I want the system to be able to boot to a 'USB Drive' then it can boot to it either automatically or manually. My old Phoenix Award BIOS is nearly as friendly, letting me select 'USB-HDD' as one of four boot options.
