I almost never hire anyone throughout the game, maybe because i always play with a sorcerer and a healer to start with, so i have everything i need in my party. a master healer sounds pretty good, though! i'll go for them if i see i can't manage it on my own. i'll try fighting from a distance, thanks a lot for the advice! i managed to set a bacon somewhere in a narrow corridor, i'll take it from there next time! i noticed that the tomb of varn is gone from the dragonsand map in TCC...i wonder where that dungeon ended up? (really scared to ask, lol)
