The game didn't exit with that message, but it locked up and I had to terminate it. I suspected that it was due to either the game or the computer overloading, being unable to handle the number of near-simultaneous movements and attacks in real-time combat. I found the solution was instantly to enter turn-based mode, and not to leave it until you had reduced most of the attackers to corpses. Not perfect, and my party suffered a fair amount of damage on occasions, but at least I could get on with the game.
